General Economics Minor

Elective Course
Students must complete one (3-unit) economics elective that has at least ECON 1501 and/or ECON 1502 as a prerequisite.
Prerequisites
The prerequisite courses for ECON 4001 are ECON 1501 and MATH 1520. In addition, ECON 4830 or MATH 2130 must be taken prior to or concurrently with enrollment in ECON 4001. The prerequisite courses for ECON 4002 are ECON 1502 and ECON 4001.
Additional Information
- No credit is awarded in the minor from the AP Microeconomics or the AP Macroeconomics exam(s). Similar policies exist for IB and British A-level coursework. Please refer to Arts & Sciences policies. Students electing to bypass one, or both, of the introductory courses (Econ 1501, Econ 1502) must complete additional (3-unit) elective coursework at the 3000-level or higher to make up for the bypassed units.
- Minors may receive a maximum of 3 units of transfer credit from other colleges/universities, including from study abroad/study away programs, to replace one of: ECON 1501, ECON 1502, or a 3000-level economics elective. A minimum grade of C- must be earned, unless the transfer credit is from a study abroad/study away program. Students must complete study abroad/study away credit with a letter grade option, earning at least a grade of C.
- AP, IB, and/or British A-level credit for MATH 1510 and/or MATH 1520 is accepted in the economics minor. Please refer to Arts & Sciences policies for further information.
- Transfer credit for MATH or for SDS courses is approved by the respective departments and is accepted by the Department of Economics for minor credit.
